To generalise, Daniel Filmer and Jarrod O’Connell are a pair of enigmas - tech savvy boys from a small country town in Queensland. About as far from the Andy Symonds, Matthew Hayden banana-bender stereotype as you can get.
Yet it’s from this unlikely demographic that the latest and greatest smart phone apps are coming.
If anyone’s ever skipped to the front of the coffee queue you’re in, collected their cup of caffeine and left, you’ve probably been mystified by TXT4Coffee. This free app from Filmer and O’Connell’s 3PlayTechnology allows users to order ahead and pre-pay their coffee so it’s ready when they arrive.
Now rolled out at over 300 coffee shops nationwide, the cafe simply receives the order on their iPhone, Pod or Pad and sends a confirmation text estimating how many minutes away your flat white is. Payment is automatically settled from your pre-paid account and every 10th coffee’s free. How good’s that?
But wait, there’s more. The menu from each coffee shop’s uploaded so you can order a bite while you’re at it. This also happens to be the basis for their next app – pre-ordering from food outlets. The soon to be launched food version is being trialled at select Subway stores now.
You can probably add another snooze to your alarm with this sort of efficiency.
If you’re relatively new to the world of apps, you’re probably wondering how they make a crust out of the operation. This is done in two ways; an advertisement placed through the ordering process, and the pay-per-use option for cafe’s to notify patrons of specials, happy hours and the like through the app. The latter of these not only gives customers a good deal, but also makes for more consistent trade throughout the day.
In a market flooded with quickly and cheaply developed apps, it’s apparent that the time and money required has been put in to developing a quality one in TXT4Coffee. The next step for Filmer and O’Connell is a trip to the hungry country later this year, the US, where things could really take off.
However it’s not all food focused for the boys from the bush. Yesterday, in partnership with multi-award winning small business owner Angela Vithoulkasand Shoe String Media Group founder Mathew Beeche, they launched Cofounda. We’ve covered this enterprising app here.

The sense of hitting out to the world of business is easy. For many unions' technique has been to basically overcome any one gran or governor.
